Art and Culture:
Thanks to the Poete President Leopold Sedar Senghor in particular, the type setter of the national hymen, it is natural that Senegal supports art and culture.
Therefore, at Dakar and in different regions numerous social and cultural events are organized: exhibitions, festivals, Simb (fake lion dance), wrestling fights, baptisms and marriages, nocturnal Sabar (tam-tam), etc.
Music and dancing are omnipresent. Senegal is a country rich in musical values and numerous occasions are excuses for getting together around griots or clapping and hip-dancing that delights the public who come many times in large numbers. Every ethnic group has its music and instruments that belongs to them. Music is part of cultural activities that brighten Senegal, with its popular artists like: Youssou Ndour, Baba Maal, Toure-Kunda, Daara-J, PBS Radical and others who also succeeded in doing M’balax, Wango and RAP GALSEN a music loved and listened to throughout the country and even outside the frontier.
M'balax, typically from Senegal, translates the country's ambiance. The dance plays an essential role in the black continent that remains a place for exchange and encounters, learning and renewal. So, Senegal organizes every year an international dance festival KAAY FECC (come dancing) to promote traditional and contemporary African dance.
Let's also point that the culture in Senegal is rich. Numerous outings are organized regularly in the cultural centres or out-doors like the Biennale DAK'ART, the neighbourhood movie theatre, exhibitions with painters and designers, let's not forget the wrestling fights which is the national sport most loved for the locals. The wrestling fights are most of the time held on Sundays in the largest stadiums in Dakar and transmitted by television.
Music:
Hip-Hop is very true-to-life in the suburbs with the presence of talented and established artists. However, many of them are still not very well known by the Senegalese public. We would therefore like to introduce them to you so that you are exposed to their talent and can judge it for yourselves.
Amongst these, we would like to highlight groups such as :
These young people are mainly students, workers, traders or unemployed people who, captivated by music and above all by HIP HOP, write their own lyrics and, despite their meagre means, manage with difficulty to release one or more samples before waiting a long time for a producer to help them become famous. Sometimes they wait in vain and even abandon the project.
Art:
There are many artists who, unfortunately, lack the promotion to make themselves known. In the Diamaguene Sicap M'bao village, there are many artists - men and women - amongst whom some are : musicians and others are painters, stainers, percussionists, 'taggeurs' etc
Poetry:
Since we are concerned about generalizing poetry, we ask you, dear poets of the village, to send us your poems so that we can put them on the site and participate in a small way in your promotion.
